Smoking Cessation Programs: What are My Options?

Smoking cessation is the process in which a person quits smoking tobacco products, and involves numerous methods. Most methods have a cost attached to them, and some can be quite expensive.

However, in the long run, where a person's health is concerned, if the program employed works, it is beneficial regardless of its cost.

Hypnotherapy is considered an alternative method in that a person doesn't use the patches or pills that are sold as OTC remedies. The use of hypnosis for smoking cessation has been found to be effective in many cases, but the experts still claim that the results are inconclusive.

Regardless of which one of these programs you choose, the benefits to your health are numerous enough to make any treatment worth it if it works.

Other methods of therapy for stopping smoking include laser treatment. Laser therapy involves the use of a "cold" laser as a type of acupuncture.

This is the more modern method of course, but acupuncture has been around for centuries. The Anne Penman Laser Therapy Center in Exton, PA has been using laser therapy since September of 2005 with much success.

Acupuncture is centuries old, and has become one of many treatments employed as a smoking cessation program. Needles are placed in strategic areas of the body in order to make contact with certain nerves that are believed to play a role in health problems.

Supposedly, this form of smoking cessation therapy also works, but there are those who say that the results are inconclusive as with laser therapy. There are no known side-effects using acupuncture to quit smoking.

Where success is the issue with stop smoking remedies, there are numerous patches and pills on the market that are sold on an over-the-counter basis, and there are also those that are prescribed by physicians.

Interestingly enough, quitting "cold turkey" is the most common method of choice when a person decides to stop smoking (80-90% of the instances), beating the advertised methods hands down in comparison.

Additionally, programs are offered via the internet, over the telephone, or in person with some smoking cessation methods/aids.

Counseling provides positive support and guidelines for those who are going through the programs and in a lot of instances, these programs and support techniques are offered free of charge.

The bottom line is that smoking cessation is a matter of choice with individuals. You have to want to shed the habit if you are going to have any shot at success. If your mindset is not totally focused on the issue, in most cases, you will be unsuccessful in your attempts to stop smoking.
